We started the ranch because of our passion for quality, delicious Wagyu beef, our commitment to natural farming, and the pursuit of a freer, better way to do things.
Founded on the principles of hard work and independence, Freedom Reserve Cattle Company was born from a desire to raise cattle the right way—on open pastures, free from compromise, free from hormones and unnecessary antibiotics, and guided by an unquenching desire to produce the best testing beef on the planet. We’re proud to combine generations of ranching heritage with a bold, modern vision for premium Wagyu beef.
Our Story
Freedom Reserve Cattle Company is owned and operated by Father and Son Team (Joe and Rob Serpico) along with the help of one Rob’s sisters and cowgirl-to-be, Trie. Located on the family ranch in Lawrence, MI (just about an hour and a half from Chicago, IL), Freedom Reserve Cattle Company is committed to and passionate about being good stewards of the land and caring for our land, cattle and community the way God intended. You won’t find pesticides, harmful chemicals, unnecessary antibiotics, hormones, steroids or anything of the sort on our land, or on our animals.
Wagyu Cattle thrive in low stress environmentsﾠand so we take extra care to provideﾠspecial care to our cattle to ensure the highest quality of meat. Our cattle never leave our ranch for the entire time they are with us. We let our cattle free range on our pesticide-free, herbicide-free and chemical-free pastures.ﾠ We also use high quality, locally sourced grains for our nutrition program and finishing program to ensure the long term health and proper development of our animals, which is what allows us to provide the absolute highest level of meat quality. We are also committed to preserving the bloodlines and lineages of our cattle and all of our cattle are DNA tested and registered by the American Akaushi Association.

The Journey of our Wagyu Beef
Once our cattle are sent to the local processor, the beef is immediately shipped to you, the consumer, in vacuum-sealed, insulated packaging to ensure absolute freshness or sent to our distribution center located in Hampshire, IL for storage and/or delivery. The best way to take advantage of pure, naturally raised beef from our farm directly to your table with no delay in between is to put a deposit down on a cow (a sixteenth, eighth, quarter, half or whole), and you will be guaranteed the absolute freshest highest quality of Wagyu beef that you can find.
We did not start with Wagyu cattle originally. Andy, our first full-blooded bull was not introduced to our community until 2017. However, after experiencing the immensely superior taste of Wagyu Beef with its juicy tenderness and intense marbling, and after learning of all the health benefits that Wagyu Beef offers, it became clear that Wagyu Beef was the only beef we wanted to eat and the only beef we wanted to offer to our local communities.
